Introduction of Asset Management Framework for European Portfolio

The Challenge

Since 2019, our client’s offshore wind portfolio rapidly expanded and market conditions became progressively challenging, increasing the demands on their asset management team.

Against this backdrop, managing day-to-day activities whilst tackling emerging challenges, risks, and opportunities became more challenging.

Whilst working alongside our client to deliver our Jupiter asset management package, NIA observed several challenges that if addressed could enhance team collaboration, improve workload management, and support more efficient asset management processes.

The challenges NIA observed included:

  • Managing Routine and Emerging Tasks: Balancing daily activities with addressing emerging risks and opportunities creates a “whack-a-mole” environment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinating with leadership and broader stakeholders requires continuous effort, which can limit the time available for task execution and strategic planning.
  • Team Capacity: Managing multiple responsibilities while responding to changing demands can stretch the team’s capacity, making it more difficult to focus on continuous and strategic improvement.

Who Did What

Our Special Projects team set about supporting our client with the implementation of NIA Asset management Framework. Our asset management framework is defined by the following core principles:

  • Routine: An army marches in time with the beat of a drum. Routine should take the strain, not the team.
  • Decisions: There is a time for decisions and a time for discussion and problem solving. They don’t have to happen at the same time.
  • Predictability: Everything has a time and a place, reducing the need for firefighting.
  • Standardisation: Repeatable processes ensure consistency and efficiency, reducing reliance on individuals.
  • Scalability: Working across 5 assets or 50 should be the same.

Key Takeaways

By introducing our asset management framework, we helped our client move from feeling weighed down by the demands of individual assets to seeing their portfolio as a connected, strategically managed whole. This shift in perspective gave them clarity and control, replacing reactivity with purpose.

Our structured engagement plan then brought rhythm and routine to the asset management process, helping the team stay ahead of both ongoing priorities and emerging issues. Regular performance dialogues reinforced this momentum, creating a shared understanding of how their actions directly influenced asset performance.

Ultimately, our standardised workflows embedded greater accountability and efficiency across the team, reducing duplication and freeing up time to focus on what truly drives value.
